Sheet Metal Bending Parts

Sheet metal bending is a forming process. During custom sheet metal bending, metal sheets are shaped into the desired three-dimensional forms by applying bending stress through pressure equipment and specialized molds. We are a professional sheet metal bending company offering customized bending services.

What is Sheet Metal Bending?

Sheet metal bending is the process of bending a flat metal sheet into a V-shaped opening. During bending, the workpiece is placed on a die with a V-shaped groove. Then, a wedge-shaped tool (punch) applies pressure to the workpiece, pushing it into the V-shaped die and bending the sheet to the required angle.

JonMake Metal Sheet Bending Process

Bending, also known as bending forming or folding, is a plastic deformation process along an axis. Bending typically does not change the thickness of the metal sheet.

Punches and dies (press brakes) are used to perform this process. The dies can be either V-shaped or U-shaped. The metal sheet is pressed into the die to form the bent part.

Our CNC-controlled machines precisely adjust the punch depth, helping to maintain minimal bending radii and ensuring high accuracy.

Custom Sheet Metal Bending Services

JonMake Metal provides professional custom sheet metal bending services, offering seven different methods:

  • V-Bending – This method involves using V-shaped dies and punches to bend metal sheets into acute, obtuse, or 90° bending angles.

  • Air Bending – By leaving space (or air) under the sheet, this method allows better control of the bending angle compared to traditional V-bending, with less spring-back and higher accuracy.

  • Bottom Bending – This method requires a higher tonnage press brake to achieve precise bending angle control.

  • Wiping Bending – This includes pressing the metal sheet onto a wiping die with a pressure pad, and using a punch to bend the edge of the sheet out of the die and pad.

  • Roll Bending – Using multiple sets of rollers to feed and bend metal stock into coils, tubes, cones, or curved shapes.

  • Rotary Draw Bending – The metal sheet is clamped to a rotating die and drawn around it to form the desired bend radius shape, with an internal support mandrel to prevent surface wrinkling and minimize scratches.

  • Custom Shape Bending – HSJ accepts custom integrated forming requests to achieve efficient production.

How to Control Sheet Metal Bending Tolerances?

  • Tolerances are inevitable in precision metal bending, but they must be maintained within an acceptable range.

  • Our bending tolerance is ±0.1 mm for sheets thinner than 5.0 mm and ±0.3 mm for sheets thicker than 5.0 mm. Deviations beyond these limits are usually caused by improper operation. Our goal is to keep bending tolerances as tight as possible.

  • Therefore, during material shearing, it is essential to ensure that the shearing machine controls the bending tolerance of the sheet metal. Moreover, shearing and CNC machining play important roles in sheet metal processing accuracy.
